Ayr Choral Union was established in 1876, and has played a prominent part in the musical life of Ayrshire since then.
On October 12 1876 the Ayr Advertiser carried an advert inviting people to come along to the first meeting of Ayr Choral Union, with Mr W McAllister as conductor. The first concert was held the following year, and with the appointment of a professional conductor, Hugh McNabb, the new choir went from strength to strength.
Since then there have been many ups and downs, but throughout almost 150 years of Ayr Choral many heroic individuals have worked hard to maintain the choir.
